Report: Ames High School Gets Impressive Ranking from National Magazine

Ames High School is not only one of the best in Iowa, but also one of the best in the nation, according to a new report.

Sometimes people don't know how good they have it.

A report by U.S. News and World Report suggests we recognize Ames High School as not only one of the best schools in Iowa, but one of the best in the nation.

Ames ranks as the No. 3 high school in Iowa and No. 717 best high school in the nation, according to U.S. News. Ames scores well for math and reading proficiency.

The student body is 94 percent proficient in reading and 92 percent proficient in math, and they score a 38.2 on the college readiness index, according to the report.

Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement® coursework and exams. The AP® participation rate at Ames High School is 43 percent. The student body makeup is 51 percent male and 49 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 23 percent.

In Iowa, the cream of the crop is Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids. The school came in at No. 550 in the nation. Decorah came in as the No. 2 school.

Gilbert High School ranked No. 17.
