Salvation Army Warns of Oklahoma Tornado Fundraising Scam

The Salvation Army has not authorized a robo phone campaign for tornado victims.

A robo call requesting donations for emergency disaster relief for Oklahoma tornado victims, is a scam the Salvation Army in Boone & Story Counties warned Friday.Β 

The Salvation Army is aware of a robo call from an organization mounting an emergency appeal for funds for tornado disaster relief in Oklahoma. The pitch on the call included specific reference to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, with text along the lines of "The American Red Cross and the Salvation Army are on the site working and we need more funds to keep help coming."

The Salvation Army said, this is not an authorized Salvation Army fundraiser. The Salvation Army does not solicit funds on the phone.

Anyone who receives the call should contact Captain Rutledge at 515-230-5260.

People who want to help can donate funds by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or online at www.salvationarmyusa.org, or by mail : The Salvation Army -Disaster Relief , P.O. Box 2536, Oklahoma City, OK 73102.

People can also text the word "STORM" to 80888 to make a $10 donation through mobile phones.
