School Board Discusses Meeker Elementary School Design and Pool Plans
Ames School Board members will take a look at plans for a new Meeker and hire architects who will design a competition pool at the high school.

Board members and the public will have a better idea of what a new Meeker Elementary School building might look on Monday.
The Ames School District's architect plans to present schematic designs for the new building and seek approval from the Ames School Board during the regular board meeting Monday, before moving forward on the building's final design.

Voters approved in April 2012 a $55 million bond referendum to build three new elementary schools in the district and renovate two others. Contractors are currently building a new school on Miller Avenue that will replace Edwards Elementary school. The new Meeker Elementary School will be built where it is now.
RDG architects James Britt, Craig Bullis and Jason Blome plan on sharing the initial design with board members during the regular school board meeting on Monday, according to agenda documents.

The facilities committee also hopes to move forward on designing a new pool for the district. Currently the district and the city share the municipal pool at the high school and that sharing agreement is set to expire on April 15.
The district requested design proposals for a 50-meter competition swimming pool facility that could accommodate USA swimming long course meets. The facilities committee interviewed architects and will recommend hiring FRK Architects and Engineers to design the new competition swimming pool, according to agenda documents.
The pool was closed briefly earlier this year after some swimmers reported feeling a tingly sensation and an electrical problem was found.Β
