And, riling up the left as he does.

King is a five-term Republican Congressman campaigning for Iowa's fourth district seat against a formidable foe in Democrat Christie Vilsack.

This week, online pub Salon.com has a piece about King that is catching some by surprise.Β

The Salon piece reports that King built his business, King Construction (he has sold it to his son), with the help of government contracts - $1.6 million worth.

β€œI built it. I built it on low-bid β€” both private and public β€” contracts," King said in a statement, cited by Salon. "I created jobs and saved the taxpayers money on every road I built."

King hasn't made it a secret that he has bid for and won government contracts, but the piece has seems to have some doing a double take.

King after all is a get-the-government-out-of-the-way-so-private-business-can-thrive, Tea Party favorite.

What do you think? Does it seem contradictory that King took government contracts to help build his business?
