FROM CITY OF AMES
AMES, Iowa – Construction on State Avenue from Oakwood Road to 400 feet north of the U.S. 30 bridge is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 26. While vehicle access will be maintained on State Avenue with pilot cars, flaggers, and by temporary traffic, drivers should expect delays. The project is anticipated to take eight to nine weeks to complete.
Improvements on State Avenue include resurfacing the road, shoulder widening, replacement of the bridge approach sections, and new guardrail at specific locations. As the City of Ames moves forward on street improvements, Iowa State University will resurface the section of State Avenue on its property, (remainder of State Avenue north to Mortensen Parkway). Scheduling these improvements at the same time will cause fewer inconveniences for property owners and drivers, and provide for a uniform section of reconstructed roadway.
For safety reasons please keep pets and children away from the construction zone. If the weather or unforeseen conditions prevent this work from beginning on Monday, it will take place on the next day of favorable conditions.
