'Thought We Weren't Going to Make It' Couple Saved from Train Tracks Speaks
An elderly couple rescued from a railroad crossing in Ames spoke about their experience recently.
The couple saved from a car that stalled on railroad tracks as a train was about to cross talked to KCCI about the rescue recently.
Marion Papich, 84, and his wife, Jean Papich, 78, of Slater, were passing the Clark Avenue about 2 p.m. Wednesday when their car died. Marion Papich tried to restart the car to no avail. Luckily two men, including Chris Ihle, pushed the elderly couple's stalled vehicle from the tracks just moments before a train passed.
“I really thought we weren't going to make it,” Jean Papich told KCCI.

Marion Papich said knew he should have gotten out of the car, “I kept thinking the car is going to start.”
