Three Ames School Board seats open in 2013 School Election

The seats of Ames school board directors Mike Espeset, David Putz and William Talbot are up for election in September.

Three seats on the seven-member Ames Community School DistrictΒ board are opening as the terms end for Ames school board directors Mike Espeset, David Putz and William Talbot. The seats are are for four-year, at large terms that expire in 2017.Β 

The election is set for Sept. 10, 2013.

School board candidates may begin filing nomination papers Monday, July 8, and must file by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Candidates must be eligible to vote in the school district at the time of the election. A candidate does not need to be registered to vote, but must meet the eligibility requirements for voter registration. The Iowa Association of School Boards provides a complete reference guide online at www.ia-sb.org/boardelections.aspx.

Each candidate must file an affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions with the the district’s Board Secretary. The affidavit of candidacy and nomination petitions must be filed together to be accepted. The petitions must be signed by at least 50 persons eligible to vote in the Ames Community School District.

Nomination papers for Ames Community School District school board seats are available from Board Secretary Karen Shimp’s office, located in the Educational Services Center, 415 Stanton Ave. in Ames.

Candidates may attend a β€œCandidate School” hosted by the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board from 1–3 p.m., July 19, in Vocational Rehabilitation Building’s Grant Room facility at the Jesse Parker Building, 510 E. 12th St., Des Moines. Candidates may register by July 8 to Sharon Wright at the IECD Board, at sharon.wright@iowa.gov.
