The city is mostly agricultural and known for its grape and wine production. It's about 200 miles from the nuclear power plant the failed during a March 2011 earthquake and went through rolling blackouts after the disaster, according to an article in the Decorah Newspaper.

Anyone interested in participating in the Japanese trip should contact Dianne Brotherson at dkbroth@iastate.edu or at amesipca@gmail.com by Feb. 22.
