Winter Storm Draco Cancellations in Ames, Library Closed, Jim Brickman Postponed

Winter storm cancellations, delays and closings have already begun.

Ames Community Schools have canceled all classes and activities Thursday.

Ames Public Library, now at its temporary location near East HyVee is closed Thursday due to weather. The board has also canceled its board meeting.

Jim Brickman's performance planned for Thursday evening has been postponed.

Iowa State University cancelled the women's basketball game scheduled for Wednesday. Classes currently are not in session.

The City of Ames canceled its U.S. Highway 30 entry way lighting ceremony originally scheduled for Thursday.

The β€œLight Up the Night” outdoor ceremony to recognize the completion of the Southeast Entry Way Project was set for 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.

Instead a recognition event celebrating the project’s completion will be held at the beginning of the regularly scheduled Jan. 8, City Council meeting.Β 

Story County will close all offices at 3 p.m. Thursday.

And the Salvation Army has postponed the opening of its Christmas store.Β The Salvation Army's Christmas Toy Shops in Ames and Boone will open at noon Thursday instead of the originally planned 9 a.m.Β 

Captain Robin Rutledge said in a prepared statement that anyone with a Thursday morning appointment in Ames or Boone can come in Thursday afternoon or Friday to pick up their Christmas assistance.

The temporary facility is located two doors east of The Salvation Army's family service center at 703 E. Lincoln Way in Ames and is being operated in partnership with United Way of Story County.

Ames Toy Shop hours are 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 1-4 p.m. Friday.
