Winter Storm Rocky: Ames Under Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service now predicts Ames could receive a little more snow than initially thought.

UPDATED 1:57 p.m.

A slushy snow has covered Ames streets, canceling afternoon classes at area schools and the city remains under a Winter Storm Warning until noon Wednesday.

Winter Storm Rocky could bring as much as seven inches of snow to the area by morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Before noon Tuesday, Ames roads were covered in a mix of snow and slush and were impassable at some points.

The winter storm warning remains in effect until noon Wednesday. An updated forecast continues below:

  • THIS AFTERNOON: Snow with areas of blowing snow. High near 31. Windy, with a north wind around 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • TONIGHT: Snow with areas of blowing snow. Low around 28. Windy, with a north northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • WEDNESDAY: A 50 percent chance of snow before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Windy, with a north northwest wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
