Ankeny Considers Limiting Snow Removal for Seniors
More seniors might have to shovel their own sidewalks if a proposed changes to the snow removal program are approved.

Fewer Ankeny residents would be eligible for the City's free snow removal program if the City Council approves proposed changes, according to the Des Moines Register.
The city has paid contractors to clear the sidewalks of residents who were at least 60 years old since the 1970s, according to a report in the Des Moines Register. All disabled residents also qualify for the program.
But the City Council has proposed new rules including increasing the age of eligibility to 65 and adding an income requirement. Households that earn more than 200 percent of the federal poverty limit would no longer be eligible for the program despite age, the report said.
