Ankeny Opens Second New High School in Two Years
Ankeny Centennial High School opened for the first day of class Thursday.
Ankeny Centennial High School students said they were sad about leaving their old high school but excited to step into the new building.
Ankeny's second new high school in two years opened for classes Thursday.
“There’s a little bit of hesitance about going away from what we’re used to, but it’s also really exciting,” said senior Ben Merrill, 17, told the Des Moines Register. “We are the foundation for everything that comes next.”
The new high school, Centennial, is a mirror image of Ankeny High School which opened in the fall of 2011.
Everything is exactly alike. However the Centennial school is located near a conservation wetland area that teachers hope to use as an outdoor classroom.
And Centennial school will offer an auto body class, that Ankeny High School students may also enroll in.
