Iowa Moms to Rally for Gunsense

The Iowa Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gunsense in America hosting their second annual Wear Orange Day (#WearOrange) on Thursday, June 2, 2016.

June 2nd is the birthday of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15 year old honor student who was senselessly gunned down in a city park in Chicago just weeks after marching in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. After her death, her friends chose to honor her memory by donning the color orange - a color hunters wear to say “I’m here. I’m human. Don’t shoot.” and have asked those who support reducing gun violence in America to join them.

Last year, social media was flooded as millions of Americans tweeted and posted pictures of themselves in orange to call attention to the scourge of gun violence that takes the lives of nearly 90 Americans daily. Celebrities, businesses, professional sports teams and law makers on the state and national level joined in to add their voices to the 90% of Americans who hunger for better gun laws to protect our families.

On June 2, there will be two ways you can participate to voice your support and remembrance of those who have been lost.

1. Wear Orange and Tweet and/or Facebook your picture! Be sure to use the hashtag #WearOrange and tweet at any or all of the following: .@momsdemandaction .@everytown

You can wear ANYTHING orange - a shirt, a tie, a jewelry or other accessories.
