Ready For Kindergarten? Ankeny Starting Pre-Registration Now
Informational meetings for parents of incoming kindergartners will be held Feb. 8 and enrollment begins on Feb. 9.

ANKENY, IA — Ankeny schools are accepting pre-registration forms now from parents who have a child that will enter kindergarten in the fall. Submitting the information will help the district gauge how many children will start school next year and will help plan for attendance at upcoming informational meetings.
The next step will be the informational kindergarten meetings, scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at each of the elementary buildings. Parents who have a child that will be 5 by Sept. 15, 2018, should plan to attend. The child does not attend at that time; events will be held prior to the beginning of the school year to familiarize students with the assigned building and teacher.
You can find your neighborhood school by using the district's boundary map or address look-up tool.

Student placement is determined first by address, but if increased enrollment leads to a space limitation, district administrators could move a student to a different school where space is available. Details on how those decisions are made, in accordance with district policies, also are available online. Building placements for kindergarten students will be determined in June and communicated to families by mail in mid June.
To prepare for kindergarten, the district has provided a checklist detailing the required documents necessary for enrollment. The required forms are:
- Proof of child's birth, such as a copy of a birth certificate, passport or adoption paperwork.
- A home language survey
- The kindergarten informational form, which is not available online and must be submitted at the neighborhood school beginning at the Feb. 8 meeting.
- Proof of Ankeny residency. A list of acceptable documents is available online. Families must provide a physical address even if the mailing address is a P.O. Box.
In addition, state-required immunization records and health screenings are needed by the first day of school. Elementary nurses can help answer questions or concerns and they should be contacted before June.
Families that cannot attend a Feb. 8 meeting can ask someone else to submit their forms to the school that evening, or you may submit documents beginning Feb. 9 to the elementary school secretary, the registrar's office at 306 S.W. School St., or via email to registrar@ankenyschools.org.
