Take A Quiz: Which Ankeny Team Is 4th In Nation?

Hint: It's a group of middle school students crowned state champions in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl.

A team of Southview Middle School eighth-graders has outranked most of their peers nationally to take fourth place among 248 teams in the online Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl competition, the Ankeny school district announced today. The team is Iowa's champion in the competition.

District officials said this is the first time in school history that an Ankeny team has won this competition at the national level. Southview was among 67 Iowa teams in the event.

Coach Nathan Coombes said it had been a goal of the team to be the state champion and he was proud of them for "meeting their goal of winning the state crown."

In the Quiz Bowl, students take a test of 100 multiple choice questions online. Their results are scored automatically via computer. The quiz covers math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature and English.

Southview's team incudes students Emily Byrnes, Emma Caruso, Brenna Coleman, Thomas Dao, Francesca Elia, Griffith Gade, Blake Ganpat, Hudson Griffin, Michael Hayden, Hunter Hulling, Kian Wing, Philip Na, Jocelyn Riley, Avery Rozinek, Logan Weathers, Brandon Williams, Hunter Yeatts, Mason Yeatts, Lexi Gibson and Ethan Thomas.
