6 New Foods You Never Imagined You Could Get on a Stick at This Year's Iowa State Fair

Ready for the 2013 Iowa State Fair? Break out the antacids and prepare for some culinary adventure.

Break out the antacids, my fellow Iowans. The new foods at the Iowa State Fair will be worth every last one you take.

Here's the list of foods that will make a debut at this year's fair. It includes foods even the most imaginative fair food lovers may never have pictured could be eaten on a stick. Like smoothies.

According to fair authorities, there are over 50 food-on-stick options available, so if you don't see something that appeals here, you're sure to still find a treat at the fair.

Here are some new food-on-a-stick highlights:

  1. Shrimp Corndog - (three shrimp deep fried and topped with sweet chili sauce, available at the Po Boy Stand on Rock Island Avenue)
  2. Smoothie On-a-stick - (a fresh strawberry smoothie frozen and put on a stick, available at Turkey Time Concessions)
  3. Deep Fried Brownie On-a-stick - (a chocolate brownie deep-fried and topped with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar, available at Fyfe Concessions)
  4. Coconut Mountain On-a-stick - (a soft and chewy coconut ball rolled in coconut flakes and dipped in fresh chocolate, available at Oasis Concessions)
  5. Soft Salted Chocolate Dipped Almond Pretzel On-a-stick - (a soft pretzel dipped in chocolate almond bark sprinkled with slivered almonds and a dash of salt, available at the Old Fashioned Root Beer & Pretzels stand)
  6. Rib Shack Cowboy - (a mix of cowboy beans, brisket or pork, cole slaw, a signature chip and barbeque sauce in a spice-flavored waffle cone; available at the Rib Shack)
This year's state fair will be held Aug. 8-18 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.
