97 New Americans Take Oath of Allegiance, Become Citizens in Ceremony at UNI

People from 43 countries became Americans Wednesday in a ceremony for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

The people who gathered at the University of Northern Iowa Wednesday came from all over the world. They were from Mexico, India, Bosnia, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic. They were from Canada, Germany, Sudan and China. The list of countries represented went on and on.

But today, they are all Americans.

Ninty-seven people from 43 countries took the Oath of Allegiance to the United States at the Naturalization Ceremony for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa.

"As a federal judge, this is one of my favorite things to do," said Judge Jon Scoles, who proceeded over the ceremony. "I know you all worked very hard to become citizens of this country, and you should all be very proud of your achievement."
