Attempted Abduction Reported in Waterloo: Police Seek Information on Van, Suspects

Anyone with information about the van or suspects are asked to call the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-2515.

On Wed., May 1 at approximately 2:26 p.m., Waterloo Police were dispatched to Essex Drive and Idaho Street on report of an attempted child abduction.

Police said a nine-year-old girl was walking home from Highland School, 812 Idaho St., when a black van stopped her at the intersection of Essex Drive and Idaho Street.

Police said a white female passenger got out of the van and grabbed the girl by the collar of her coat. Authorities said the girl got away and the woman got back in the van and took off.

The woman was described as white, middle aged with grey hair, 5'9", medium build wearing a black shirt and black pants. The driver of the van was described as a black male, middle aged, with grey hair. The black van had no windows. Police said possible license plate on the van includes numbers similar to "1050"

The van was last seen driving south on Idaho Street towards Dubuque Road, authorities said.
