Campaign Finance: Green's Donations Outpace Saul's 5-To-1

LeeAnn Saul raised more money heading into the Nov. 5 election, but reports filed today show Green had many more donations this month.

CEDAR FALLS, IA — The race to fill an open at-large seat on the Cedar Falls City Council will be decided Dec. 5 in a runoff election between Rob Green and LeeAnn Saul, who finished first and second, respectively, in the Nov. 5 general election. But in the contest of raising campaign finances, Green outpaced Saul with five times the donations this month.

Prior to the November vote, Saul's campaign had raised more than twice the amount of Green's. She reported campaign contributions of $5,455, according to documents filed Nov. 2 with the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board. Green raised $2,110 in the same period, his filings indicate.

But new reports filed today show Green's campaign contributions since Nov. 2 were $2,560, while Saul raised only $550. She also reported a loan to herself of $3,000, according to reports filed.

A runoff is required in the race because none of the three candidates received a majority of the vote. Green was the top vote getter with 2,110, or nearly 40 percent of the vote, according to officials results from the Black Hawk County Election Office. Saul had 1,802 votes, or 34 percent.

Erin Cornelius, the third candidate in the race earlier this month, claimed one-fourth of the votes with 1,382.

Change in polling site

The Black Hawk County Auditor's office has reported a change in polling site for voters in Ward 5, Precinct 2. Those residents normally vote at Orchard Hill Church, but due to a scheduling conflict at that site, they will combine with the voters of Precinct 3 and vote at Trinity Bible Church, 125 Orchard Drive. The poll site change affects the Dec. 5 city runoff election only.
