'I've Done My Very Best,' Superintendent Tells School Board in Resignation Notice He Later Rescinded
Cedar Falls Superintendent Mike Wells announced plans to resign on Monday, but then withdrew that resignation at Monday night's school board meeting.

Cedar Falls Superintendent Mike Wells told school board members he's done his best and what he believed was best for the children, in an email on Monday announcing his intentions to resign.
Wells planned to submit his formal notice at a school board meeting that night, but had a change of heart mid-meeting and now says he does not plan to resign.
"I wanted you to hear it from me versus reading it in the papers or from the public tomorrow," Wells said in the email, which he provided to Patch. "I will not be returning as superintendent next year. Tonight, I will resign my position effective at the end of this school year. I want you to know that I've done my very best."

Wells said after the meeting on Monday night that he had felt uncertain about the support from the district and community, but that he now understands he has full support.
He was hired less than a year ago on a one-year contract that will expire June 30. After Monday night's meeting, he said he expected to be given a standard three-year contract at the board's March 11 meeting.
The Cedar Falls School Board has called a special meeting for tonight, Feb. 27, to discuss Wells' employment contract.

Here is the email announcing his intention to resign, in its entirety:
Dear Staff,
I wanted you to hear it from me versus reading it in the papers or from the public tomorrow. I will not be returning as superintendent next year. Tonight, I will resign my position effective at the end of this school year. I want you to know that I've done my very best. I have always done what I believe is best for the children and for the future of the district. I have no regrets! I have not been perfect but my intentions were always good! The board will receive my letter of resignation at tonight's board meeting.Â
I want to thank you for your support. I have never worked with a more professional group of people. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity.
Blessings,
Mike Wells
