Gun Control Topic of Community Discussion With Sheriff, Cedar Falls and Waterloo Police

The Black Hawk – Bremer League of Women Voters is sponsoring a community conversation entitled, “Guns: Hunting for Reasonable Regulation” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26 at the Cedar Falls Library, 524 Main Street.

Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson will start the panel discussion with an overview of how changes in gun regulations have impacted the sheriff’s department. He will also offer suggestions as to what will improve his mission of keeping citizens safe.

Public Safety Director Dan Trelka of Waterloo will follow with his contemporary view of how guns are influencing police work and the impact on citizens.

Chief of Police Jeff Olson of Cedar Falls will share his views of the impact of guns in a university town and also offer suggestions for reasonable gun regulations.

Karen Herkelman, District Director First Judicial District, Department of Correctional Services, will share how guns impact citizens in the Correctional Services Department.

After these presentations, a Q&A session will follow.
