Happy Mother’s Day To Maxine Rees

"She never stopped loving, no matter what."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Lynn Collver's letter to her mom:

With love to Maxine Rees, who taught me how to love:

She was raised during the depression when she had to stand in lines for shoes. She hated that with a passion. She married a United States sailor whom she absolutely loved and was committed to, no matter what.

And there were a lot of "no matter whats" during their long marriage. The pain of being poor kept her determined to make things work, not spend beyond her means and love no matter what.

There it is again. "No matter what." It is the eternal truth of learning how to love. She taught me how to love, how to understand that my behavior would affect others somehow, someway, and to think before proceeding.

No, I did not listen. No, I did not always follow her teaching. It was a disappointment to her, and it may have even made her angry, but she never gave up. She never stopped loving, no matter what.
