Man Dies in Black Hawk County Crash Saturday

Police said Larry Spiegel, 57, was killed when his Toyota Corolla collided with a Ford Pickup being driven by Joshua Peter, 24, of Gladbrook at the intersection of Gibson Road and Eagle Road south of Waterloo.

A Waterloo man died Saturday after a car crash in rural Black Hawk County.

Police said Larry Spiegel, 57, was killed when his Toyota Corolla collided with a Ford Pickup being driven by Joshua Peter, 24, of Gladbrook at the intersection of Gibson Road and Eagle Road south of Waterloo.

The Iowa State Patrol said Peter failed to yield the right of way to Spiegel, resulting in a broadside collision that sent both vehicles into the ditch. Spiegel's car rolled onto its top while Peter's truck came to rest in a field. Peter received minor injuries in the accident.

Authorities said charges were filed against Peter.

The Iowa State Patrol, the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office and Reinbeck Fire and Ambulance responded to the accident.
