Man Who Disappeared in Cedar River Identified; Search Continues for Third Day

Authorities said the man had been tubing with friends in the Cedar River Sunday when the tube flipped over.

Authorities have released the name of the man who disappeared under the water of the Cedar River while tubing Sunday.

Andre Dimitri Tims, 19, of Waterloo, remains missing, and authorities will continue searching for him Tuesday.

On Sunday at around 7:30 p.m., Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Black Hawk Park north of Cedar Falls on a report of a possible drowning.

Authorities said Tims had been tubing with friends in the Cedar River when the tube flipped over. Witnesses said he went under the water and partially came back up a couple of times but then went under and wasn't seen again. 

Deputies, with the assistance of Black Hawk County Conservation, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Cedar Falls Fire and police searched for him until 9 p.m. Sunday, until it got too dark to be safe for operations.

The search continued Monday. A boat with side view sonar was used, and operations continued into the evening.

Today, July 16, the search for Tims continues.
