Officials: 911 Calls Experiencing 'Problem' Across Iowa

Emergency calls to 911 across Iowa are being affected by an outage, according to a press release sent out by Cedar Rapids Police Friday night.

Emergency calls to 911 across Iowa are being affected by an outage, according to a press release sent out by Cedar Rapids Police Friday night.

The release says the outage is affecting all agencies across Iowa and that 911 calls from around the state are ringing into the Iowa State Patrol headquarters in Des Moines.

From KWWL: "Dispatchers with Black Hawk County said the issue wasn't an outage but that there was a 'problem' with statewide 911 calls.

A dispatcher with the Iowa State Patrol in the Des Moines area said they believed the problem to be limited to cellular 911 calls, but didn't know the extent of the problem."

When Patch editor Deb Belt in the Des Moines area checked with Westcom dispatch in West Des Moines, supervisors there said that center -- which serves West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale -- was operating normally.
