Wells Releases 'Talking Points' to Cedar Falls School Board Before His Resignation: 'You Knew What You Were Getting'

Cedar Falls Superintendent Mike Wells, faced with termination, resigned at a special school board meeting Feb. 27.

Before Mike Wells, superintendent of Cedar Falls schools, resigned at a special school board meeting Wednesday, he made remarks to the board, expressing his feelings on his job performance and his hopes the board would not vote to terminate him.

In the end, the board allowed him to resign, effective July 1, rather than be terminated. The board voted 5-2 to accept his resignation.

Wells has provided Patch with the "talking points" notes he spoke from at the Feb. 27 meeting. They are attached to this article as a PDF.

In them, he says he has made mistakes, but that he believes he has done "nothing fatal" to warrant his contract not being renewed:

YOU selected me for this position.  You knew what you were getting.  You got exactly what I told you I was.  You saw something in me that Cedar Falls needed.  I think of it as a marriage.  I’m glad my wife didn’t give up on me because of “communication”.  I believe I’m a good match for Cedar Falls.  I can provide the necessary leadership to have a World Class school.  I have work to do but I’m willing to do it just give me a chance.
