Police said that on Thursday just after 8 a.m., they received a report of a suspicious man near a school bus stop talking with the girl.
The girl was waiting for the bus in the 500 block of Lakeside Street when a man got out of a car and asked what she was doing, authorities said. Another vehicle then pulled up to the bus stop and the man got back in his vehicle and left, police said. Police said he did not touch or harm the girl.
Then, at about 9:12 a.m., the same vehicle was observed driving through the parking lot at Lowell Elementary School, 1628 Washington St., police said.
Police said the man was described as Arabic with a dark beard and was driving a black Trailblazer-type SUV with Oklahoma plates.
Anyone with information on the suspect or vehicle is asked to immediately contact the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-2515.
The incident comes just two weeks after another abduction attempt was reported in Waterloo and as the community nears the one year anniversary of the disappearance and murder of the Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins.
