Be careful - identity thieves are out there.

Cedar Falls Utilities released this update Monday, warning customers to be wary of scam artists trying to steal their passwords:
CFU's Help Desk periodically gets calls from customers about phony e-mail messages that falsely claim to be from CFU's support team. Please be aware of these facts:
- Any message that asks you to reply by sending your e-mail username and/or password is FRAUDULENT and is not from CFU.
- CFUÂ never asks customers to send us their usernames or passwords by e-mail. If a message asks you to do that, it's not from CFU, even though it may be written and designed to look like it came from us. It is a fraud attempt.
- If you get such a message, delete it without replying.Â
While CFU takes many precautions to prevent fraudulent e-mails from getting through to users, no e-mail service is free from abuse. Protect your account by keeping your username and password private. Don't share this information with others and don't ever put a username or password in an e-mail.Â
