Update: Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Black Hawk County; Hail, High Wind Possible

The chance for severe weather across Iowa continues tonight.

Update 8:30 p.m.:

A thunderstorm watch has been upgraded to warning for Black Hawk County.

The warning lasts until 9:15 p.m. It includes a potential for quarter-sized hail and 60 mph winds.

The National Weather Service said hail damage to vehicles and crops is expected, along with wind damage to roofs, siding and trees.

At 8:24 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was eight miles east of Eldora, moving northeast at 35 mph.

The warning is for the following areas:

Northwestern Black Hawk County, southeastern Butler County, Grundy Count and east-central Hardin County.

A thunderstorm watch has been issued for 39 counties in Iowa a day after severe weather caused power outages and damages around the state.

The watch lasts until 1 a.m.

Counties included in the watch are: Appanoose, Benton, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Des Moines, Grundy, Hardin, Henry, Iowa, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Union, Van Buren, Wapello, Warren, Washington, Wayne.
