Update: Superintendent Candidate Finalists Announced; Cedar Falls High School Principal on the List

The Cedar Falls School Board has announced the four candidates who will interview for the position of Cedar Falls superintendent.

Update 12:15 p.m.:

The public will be able to meet each candidate at a reception from 4:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the James L. Robinson Administration Center, 1002 West First St., in conference room B. Each day's reception will be devoted to a different candidate, in the order listed below.

The Cedar Falls School Board has announced the four candidates who will interview for the position of Cedar Falls superintendent.

The candidates are:

·         Dr. Andy Pattee, Superintendent, Charles City Community School District, Charles City, Iowa (Reception and interview Monday)

·         Dr. Thomas Van Soelen, Associate Superintendent, City Schools of Decatur, Decatur, Georgia (Reception and interview Tuesday)

·         Dr. Douglas G. Van Zyl, Superintendent, Fort Dodge Community School District, Fort Dodge, Iowa (Reception and interview Wednesday)

·         Dr. Rich Powers, High School Principal, Cedar Falls Community School District, Cedar Falls, Iowa (Reception and interview Thursday)

Interviews will be conducted May 20 through May 23 in the same order as listed above. The board intends to make their selection by late May, with the new superintendent beginning the job July 1.

The board worked with search firm McPherson & Jacobson, whose consultants reviewed and screened candidates. On Thursday, consultants presented the applicants to the board of education and provided them detailed background information on each applicant. 

The Cedar Falls School District is looking for a new superintendent after the board decided not to renew current superintendent Mike Wells' contract.
