Supporters Celebrate Supreme Court DOMA Decision in Cedar Falls Rally
Over 50 people gathered in Cedar Falls for a celebratory rally in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act.
The mood was festive on the corner of University Avenue and Main Street Friday.
With cheers and a steady stream of supportive honks from passing cars, over 50 people gathered in Cedar Falls for a celebratory rally in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act.
"What better way to end Pride Month than with federal equality? I'm so excited I don't have words to describe it," said Heather Walker, 24, an intern for Americans for Democratic Action, who helped organize the rally. "I feel very, very bright and warm."
The decision extends federal benefits to couples married in states where same-sex marriages are legal, including Iowa.
Here are photos from the rally.
