Cedar Falls, meet your future business leaders.

A group of preschoolers raised $185 Thursday by selling lemonade.

The group, the 3-to-5-year-old class at the University of Northern Iowa's Child Development Center, set up their wares in front of Maucker Union Thursday morning. With temperatures in the 90s, lemonade wasn't a hard sell.

The class took on the project to raise money for a sandbox for their playground. The kids mixed the lemonade, made the signs and served customers.

The lemonade was free in exchange for a donation, and plenty of parents stopped by to support the young entrepreneurs, said teacher Danielle Martens.

"It was overwhelming and awesome," she said. "We had lots of cheers here from the kids when we told them how much they raised."

But she said the money was the secondary reward.

"Whether they can fathom how much that is or not, they loved the process, from mixing the lemonade to serving today," she said. "It was fun for them to see what that process looks like."
