UNI Students Work to Raise Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness Month.

April is Autism Awareness Month, and as the month draws to a close, one group on campus has worked hard to raise money and awareness.

Jessica Rupp, 22, a University of Northern Iowa senior from Indianola, is a member of UNI sorority Alpha Xi Delta. The group has partnered with the organization Autism Speaks and raised over $1,600 during a "Xi Man" Competition on campus earlier this month.

Rupp said philanthropy is an important part of Greek life, and that with the growing number of autism diagnosis in the country, almost every one of the sisters knows someone effected by autism.
