View the Comet Pan-STARRS in Cedar Falls Tonight

Will the weather be good for viewing? Here are some tips for checking out the latest comet to pass near Earth.

Have you seen the Comet Pan-STARRS passing through our atmosphere this week?

Earthsky.org recommends using the moon like an arrow, pointing the way to PANSTARRS low in the western sky after sundown. The best viewing time will be 45 to 60 minutes after sunset.

Here in Cedar Falls, where the forecast tonight is for mostly cloudy skies tonight, according to the National Weather Service. However, AccuWeather says the stargazing forecast tonight is fair. Sunset is at 7:15 p.m.

National Geographic has some photos of the comet as seen from the southern hemisphere before it moved to our half of the world on March 10.

It should be best seen on a clear night, low on the horizon just after sunset. Early in the week it should be to the left of the moon, according to Earthsky.com. NBC.News said viewing the comet might be easier online.
