Waterloo Police Officer Shoots Man
Police said the man was threatening officers with a knife.

A Waterloo police officer shot a man police said was threatening officers with a knife just after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The man was taken to Allen Hospital. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports he is out of surgery and recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
Captain Tim Pillack said officers were dispatched to East Fourth Street and Sycamore Street in Waterloo at about 1:06 a.m. on report of a man with a knife. Officers arrived and located the man in the 200 block of East 4th Street. Police said the man threatened officers with a knife, and he was shot.

The names of the man who was shot and the officer have not been released.Â
Per Waterloo Police Department policy, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been notified and is currently on scene conducting the investigation, Pillack said. The Courier reported the officer has been taken off patrol and placed on light duty.

Due to the police investigation, East 4th Street will be closed from Sycamore Street to Lafayette Street, police said.
