Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today:
- Beaverdale upholstery workshop Repinned reported a stolen catalytic converter from its delivery van after being parked in a lot across from the Flying Mango. Flying Mango owner Mike Wedeking says he has had a catalytic converter stolen at the parking lot (which he owns), and so have other vehicles parked nearby. Iowa Mufflers and Brake say they have seen as many as one to two catalytic converter thefts occur every day, so the company has begun designing cages to protect against the theft. (KCCI Des Moines)
- Lefty, a three-legged dog adopted by Des Moines venue owner Anne Mathey, has become a local icon. The Drake Neighborhood music venue, Lefty’s, is owned by Mathey and her business partner Erik Brown. The dog’s notoriety comes from the venue’s namesake and being drawn by MAD Magazine contributor Pat Moriarty for the logo. (Little Village Magazine)
- Polk County Emergency Management encourages residents to create an Emergency Health Profile to promote safety in the county and potentially save lives. The secure platform will allow residents to fill out their personal and health information to be accessible by 911 operators and first responders in the event of an emergency. Residents can create their profiles at emergencyprofile.org. (KCCI Des Moines)
