Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today:
- This week, the Des Moines City Council vowed to hold a special session in the coming weeks to discuss criminal justice reforms. Among other topics, the Mayor and Council promised to consider a third-party review board for the local police department. (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)
- With prices rising, the cost of a bus pass is going down. The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) announced that all fares will now cost $1 through May 31. "We are a community service. We are here to help our community," said Erin Hockman, DART chief external affairs officer. (KCCI Des Moines)
- The 127-year-old Fairground Hardware Building on East 30th Street has seen its last Iowa winter. The City Council voted to demolish the historic structure earlier this week. The building has been empty since 2017 and would cost upwards of $600,000 to repair. (KCCI Des Moines)
