“Over the course of the fair, over 1 million people will visit the fairgrounds,” District Chief Ed Haase said. “That’s around five times the population of Des Moines on the East Side of Des Moines over the 10 days of the fair. It’s a privilege to provide these services to all Iowans at the fair.”

This year, the DMFD is armed with a new ride to help overcome the challenges of navigating the crowded walkways of the Iowa State Fair. The new fair medical cart will save valuable time for firefighters as they respond to medical emergencies and is equipped to treat emergencies and transport patients to waiting ambulances that are stationed on the outskirts of the fairgrounds.

"It can be tough for our ambulances to get through the crowds,” Haase said. “When seconds and minutes count, this cart will help our team achieve the best possible outcomes for patients at the fair."
