Des Moines' Mac Rae Park Receives $150,000 County Grant
Park improvements including a dock, enclosed shelter and downtown overlook will be constructed in 2018.

DES MOINES, IA — A south-side park will receive a new dock, a downtown overlook and an enclosed shelter, thanks to a grant from the Polk County Supervisors. The community development grant for MacRae Park was approved Monday.
WHO-TV reported that the project will receive a $150,000 community development grant for the improvements, bringing the total collected for work on the upgrades to $800,000. Design work is under way and construction will take place next year.
The park is located on Southwest Ninth Street south of downtown. The improvements are meant to make the park an attraction for visitors and local residents who use the site.

"One of the things our survey shows us is that Des Moines businesses and Des Moines families want a place to go and enjoy and recreate at, so the more we can put into our parks, the more we can keep people here in Des Moines," Parks and Rec Director Ben Page told WHO.
