Des Moines Woman Arrested for Stabbing Boyfriend

The 25-year-old also faces child endangerment charges from earlier this month after leaving her three young children home alone.

DES MOINES, IA — A woman arrested early Saturday for stabbing her boyfriend on Des Moines' south side is behind bars for the second time this month. Destinee Kristine Miller, 25, is charged with domestic abuse assault with a weapon in the latest incident, but just two weeks ago, police were called to her home when her three children were left alone while Miller took a sick pet to a veterinarian.

In the latest incident, Miller reportedly was trying to cut herself when her boyfriend attempted to stop her and was stabbed, WHO-TV reported. The incident happened in the 100 block of Fulton Drive.

It was at the same home earlier this month that police were called on a report of three unsupervised children being outside for more than an hour. Miller told police she had left her children, ages one, two and four, alone because she had a dog that needed emergency medical care. While she was gone, the children went outside after the four-year-old, attempting to make breakfast, became afraid of a noise coming from the stove and took his siblings outside.

Police said when they arrived, one child was naked and another wore only a diaper. They also said at the time that the home was unsanitary and several sick dogs were inside the house. Miller was arrested on a child endangerment charge and later released on bond in connection with that case.

Bond was set at $2,000 in connection with Saturday's stabbing. Miller remained in Polk County Jail late Sunday.
