Here are the top three stories today in Des Moines:
- Des Moines residents got up bright and early to start their spring cleaning. Hoover High School hosted the metro’s first “Mega scrub clean up” event of the year on Saturday. This event gives people a chance to enhance the city’s neighborhoods and give Des Moines residents an opportunity to get rid of any appliances, yard debris, and bulk items like tires, TVs, and furniture; they were even able to get rid of hazardous waste. - The strong wind and cold weather on Saturday caused a sailboat on Saylorville Lake to capsize. Water rescue teams were called to the Lakeview boat ramp at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rescue crews were fast to respond, and the boater was wearing the equipment needed to keep him safe. He was uninjured. (KCCI Des Moines)
- On Saturday, a shooting in front of a Des Moines middle school ended with one person hospitalized for gunshot wounds. According to police, the shooting happened around 7:00 p.m. in the 4700 block of Madison Avenue. Police say the person shot in the incident will likely survive their injuries.
