Floor Coverings International Serves NW Des Moines
After 24 Years in Corporate Project Management New FCI Owner Will Use Skills to Beautify Homes; Help Community

(Des Moines, IA, August)-Brett Johnson is not only happy to be working for himself these days, but he’s thrilled to be working for the benefit of others, as well, as the owner of Floor Coverings International of Northwest Des Moines.
The 45-year-old Ankeny, Iowa resident spent 24 years working for large corporate entities such as Xerox, Bank of America and Wells Fargo, where he solved business problems through various project management office (PMO)roles, including leading enterprise PMO teams as well as actively volunteering and contributing to the company’s diversity and equity departments. “Throughout every stop in my career I have learned how to continuously improve how I serve others by applying listening and project management skills to deliver great experiences, which is what I now do for my Floor Coverings International (FCI) customers and the within the community,” Johnson said.
FCI is changing the game for those looking to upgrade their homes with new flooring. With their innovative and award-winning customer service tools and unique mobile showroom experience, customers can now view more than 3,000 flooring options in their own home. Launched in April, Floor Coverings International of Northwest Des Moines, serves customers throughout central Iowa including Des Moines, Ankeny, Waukee, Johnston, Urbandale, Grimes, and Ames.

While Johnson had a firm foundation in place to become a small-business owner based on his past corporate experience, he is most enthused about being able to give back to the community by re-investing a portion of company profits. “I was born and raised in central Iowa, so giving back to my community is very important to me,” Johnson said. “In addition to our longer-term vision to partner with others to assist young adult entrepreneurship in the skilled trades, arts, and athletics; our short-term commitment to giving back to the community includes support of small businesses, individual blessings and non- profit organizations.” One of the non-profits currently supported locally by Floor Coverings International is the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. They support this organization because of its commitment to finding mutually beneficial homes for furry friends and families alike. Not only does pet adoption provide a safe and loving home for the animal, but it can also help with individuals’ mental health and interactions within family units they become a part of. “We personally have three dogs, Jasper, Wilson and Leo, adopted from the local Animal Rescue League that each has a unique story of their own to tell and served a mutual purpose in changing both our and their lives,” Johnson said.
The Design Associates at Floor Coverings International provide personalized assistance in choosing from their extensive collection of flooring styles and materials. The mobile showroom allows clients to see how different options will look with existing furniture, lighting, and paint colors all within the comfort of their home.
