Full House At ARL Of Iowa Lets You 'Name Your Price' For Most Adoptions

DES MOINES, IA — A full house of nearly 1,500 animals at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa has prompted another “name your price” adoption event for many pets. The adoption event runs today through Saturday at all ARL locations.

The offer is good for adoption of cats and kittens any age and dogs older than six months. All of the animals are already spayed or neutered and have a microchip. No minimum price is set, but ARL officials have said that at past “name your price” adoptions, most people offer the regular adoption fee or an amount close to it to get their pet.

All adopters must be 18 or older, have a valid photo ID, show proof of address and sign an adoption contract. Learn more about the adoption process here. For those not in a position to adopt a pet permanently, the ARL also offers a foster program, allowing you to open your home to a dog or cat who needs special attention or a break from the shelter.

"We have many cats and dogs that could benefit from time in a foster home right now," the ARL said in a news release.

Donations also are accepted to help the nonprofit group care for the animals. Cash contributions may be made at an ARL location or a one-time, monthly or memorial/honorarium donation may be made online.

The ARL Main is located at 5452 N.E. 22nd St. and there are 11 additional adoption locations, including partner facilities. All adoption locations are part of the "name your price" program.

New Partner News: Pet Supplies Plus - Des Moines is the latest adoption partner for the ARL. The store opened earlier this month and will have a grand opening celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28. All customers who visit during that time will receive a voting chip at checkout — Preferred Pets Club members will receive two chips — to vote for their favorite local animal organization. The one with the highest vote total will receive $1,000 from the store. Pet Supplies Plus is located at 4211 Fleur Drive.
