Here are the top three stories in Des Moines today:

  1. The dancers of Ballet Des Moines are giving audiences a science lesson in a one-night-only contemporary dance performance. This Friday, Apr. 22, head over to the Des Moines Civic Center for "Of Gravity and Light," a production that uses movement to depict gravity, "the terrible forces of the sun," and other space phenomena. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. and runs 55 minutes with no intermission; all attendees must purchase a ticket online. (Little Village Magazine)
  2. Parishioners of a Des Moines church enjoyed a special addition to this year's Easter celebration — one that's been in the works for more than 100 years. The Kathedral, which was struck by a fire in 1917 and began restoration in 2016, heard the sounds of ringing bells on Sunday for the first time in over a century. "There were ... talks about tearing [the church] down," said Kathedral pastor Kenney Linhardt. "But now this building is being restored in a beautiful way, and that bell is just another way to say this is where we're at in the process." (Local 5 - weareiowa.com)
  3. A new Italian-inspired restaurant focusing on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients will be headed to downtown Des Moines. Allora is scheduled to open this summer at the Krause Gateway Center, on the first floor of Kum & Go's headquarters. In the coming weeks, Allora will announce its hours for coffee, lunch, and aperitivo. (Axios)
