Johnston High School Bowling Moved Following Plaza Lanes Fire

A long-term decision hasn't been made on where three high school teams will hold their home bowling meets for the remainder of the season.

Officials with area school districts have yet to determine a long-range plan for where area bowling teams will practice and play in light of the Plaza Lanes fire in Des Moines on Monday, but more details should be available by the time students return from winter break in early January. Plaza Lanes was the home site for three area teams.

Des Moines Hoover, Johnston and Ankeny boys' and girls' teams all used Plaza Lanes, 2701 Douglas Ave., as their "home" lanes for CIML meets. The bowling center also had hosted the high school state tournaments for boys and girls.

Ankeny and Ankeny Centennial high schools are the only area schools affected this week. The teams were scheduled to host Des Moines Lincoln on Thursday afternoon at Plaza Lanes. The meet has been moved to Bowlerama Lanes on the south side.

The teams don't compete again until after the holiday break with the next meets on Jan. 4. School officials and CIML officials are looking at options for the remainder of the season and the state tournament.
