Man Arrested For Des Moines Stabbing Remains In Jail Without Bond
Jared Smith, 24, of Saylor Township, accused of stabbing a man Tuesday, was denied bond based on outstanding Colorado and Nebraska warrants.

DES MOINES, IA — A Saylor Townsip man remains in Polk County Jail today following his arrest late Tuesday in connection with a stabbing south of downtown Des Moines. Jared Thomas Smith, 24, has been denied bond due to unrelated warrants out of Colorado and Nebraska.
Smith is charged with willful injury causing serious injury after he reportedly stabbed his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend multiple times Tuesday night, according to The Des Moines Register, which said Des Moines police received a report of a stabbing near the railroad tracks close to Southeast Seventh and Market streets about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.
The Register said a police report indicated an officer who responded to the call found a man lying on the ground with six stab wounds. Three people were in the vicinity and a woman reportedly pointed to Smith and told an officer that he had stabbed the victim.

The victim, whose identity was not provided, originally described a suspect that did not match Smith's appearance, but the police report indicates he later changed his story and identified Smith while he was in an ambulance and being transported to a local hospital.

The Register said police also learned a second woman at the crime scene was the victim's ex-girlfriend — and Smith's current girlfriend — and that the victim had been told she wanted to speak with him, but when he got to the area, Smith was there instead.
Smith, who reportedly had three knives in a backpack, was arrested at the scene.
The police report indicates the Colorado warrant is in connection with a sexual assault case and the Nebraska warrant is for larceny, according to the Register.
