Mediacom Internet Outage: Widespread Problems Reported Tuesday

Outages were reported by customers in multiple states including Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri and Michigan.

IOWA — Service was restored to thousands of Mediacom customers Tuesday evening after widespread outages were reported earlier in the afternoon, according to a tweet from the New York-based communications company.

Around 3 p.m. CT., nearly 8,500 Mediacom customers had reported an outage, according to technology outage tracker DownDetector.com. About 98 percent of reports were internet outages. Three percent of customers reported a total service blackout.

Two hours later, outage reports had dropped to nearly 700, according to DownDetector.

Mediacom Support confirmed a widespread outage in a statement posted to Twitter shortly after 3:30 p.m. An hour and a half later, a spokesperson with Mediacom said the company had restored service to customers.

"The technical problems impacting our system an hour ago have been resolved, and your service should be resumed," Mediacom tweeted. "We apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this has caused."
