Open House Tonight In Des Moines To Share Douglas Avenue Ideas
A grassroots effort to plan for redevelopment of Douglas Avenue from the Des Moines River to Merle Hay Road is in the early stages.

DES MOINES, IA — After what members deemed a successful launch last month of their initiative to make Douglas Avenue a more vibrant corridor in northwest Des Moines, the group is back to seek input from area residents about how to reshape the busy thoroughfare. The Douglas Avenue Coalition will hold an open house tonight to gather ideas for future changes.
As part of the "design studio" style for the open house, designers will be on hand to incorporate suggestions for Douglas Avenue into other ideas that have been given and you can share your thoughts on other proposals made by residents, business owners, nonprofit groups and more.
The open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight (Wednesday, Dec. 13) in the VIP room at Plaza Lanes, 2701 Douglas Ave. Enter through the southeast doors.

The group, which also held an open house Tuesday, has received city and county funding for a study that will address land use, traffic, beautification, redevelopment opportunities and more. The planning process will continue through next spring, led by RDG Planning & Design and will culminate in a final report on redevelopment to present to the Des Moines City Council.
