Here are the top 3 stories today in Des Moines:

  1. Record low temperatures were recorded in Des Moines on Tuesday morning. The 21-degree temperatures broke the city's previous daily record — set nearly a century ago in 1928 — by four degrees. The city's all-time low for the month of April is still solidly held by Apr. 3, 1975, when a temperature of nine degrees was recorded. (Des Moines Register)
  2. The Des Moines International Airport has ended its mask mandate following a decision by a federal judge on Monday to overturn the national mandate. Airport officials say that signs and announcements at the airport are still asking travelers to mask up, but penalties are no longer being enforced. Masks are also now optional on all DART buses operating in the metro. (KCCI Des Moines)
  3. A Des Moines elementary school is facing a possible name change following a request by one of its students. The Des Moines School Board voted last night on the matter of forming a committee to change the name of Jackson Elementary School. The school, which is located on Indianola Avenue, is currently named for President Andrew Jackson. (KCCI Des Moines)
