WGU Offers Teacher Scholarships for National Teacher Appreciation Week

The WGU Loves Teachers Scholarships are valued at $4,000 each and are designed to ease tuition costs for current and aspiring teachers

To show appreciation for teachers who have been working tirelessly to educate area children amid staff shortages and a changing education landscape and to attract prospective teachers to the profession, Western Governors University (WGU) today announced the launch of its annual WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship. The scholarship is designed for current and aspiring teachers who are looking to further their education by earning an AAQEP and CAEP-accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree from the online, non-profit university’s top-ranked Teachers College, or are interested in completing one of the university’s post-baccalaureate or endorsement-preparation programs. New and returning students can apply online at wgu.edu/teacherappreciation.

The WGU Loves Teachers Scholarship is designed to assist aspiring teachers in obtaining the required credentials for a rewarding career as an educator and to help current teachers improve their skill set in the classroom or move into administration. Each scholarship is valued at up to $4,000 and will be applied at the rate of $1,000 per six-month term, for up to four consecutive terms.

“Teaching is among the most valued professions, and it is vital teachers receive the appreciation they deserve as they face ongoing challenges both in and out of the classroom,” said Dr. Terrance Hopson, Regional Vice President of Western Governors University. “We are offering this scholarship to thank our educators for their sacrifice and dedication to their profession, despite these challenges. With many school districts facing critical shortages, we hope this scholarship encourages teachers, paraprofessionals and anyone who is interested in becoming a teacher to feel empowered to further their education and advance their careers.”
